Hello and welcome to Western Cameraman. My name is Andy. I took all the pictures on the site - apart from the one with me in!
If you have a soft spot for British Railways in the 70s and ’80s - especially the iconic Western Region Diesel-Hydraulics - then you’re in the right place.
I grew up in Swindon, spending countless hours on the station platform there — collecting numbers, and eventually filming & photographing the trains I loved.
I'm pictured here, at nineteen years of age, sitting in the driver's seat of Western Fusilier. It was the morning after the 'Western Tribute' Railtour. The location was Swindon Works Weighbridge where I was part of a team of WLA volunteers restoring D1062 'Western Courier'.
Now, decades later, I’m digging into the archives to bring many wonderful memories back to life and share them with you here.
