Class 35 Gallery
Here's a small selection of Class 35 'Hymek' images for you to enjoy. You'll also find more by clicking 'Print Shop' on the menu.
The main picture above shows D7028 passing Rushey Platt, just West of Swindon Works. The track going off to the right was the connection to the old Midland and Southwestern Junction line that ran North-South from Cheltenham to Andover. Sadly, that line closed to passengers in September 1961 but parts of it did remain in use for freight services until the early 1970s. And many of those freight services were worked by Hymeks.
Personally, I have memories of travelling on the line from Swindon Old Town Station to the village of Chiseldon, where my Grandparents lived. I remember my Gran waiting on the platform to meet us off the train. I was very young!

D7011 with D1062 at Exeter Shed
Class 35 D7011 and Class 52 D1062 'Western Courier' at Exeter Shed at 13.45 on the 19th July 1974. Western Courier is of course thankfully still with us, having been preserved by the Western Locomotive Association.
Sadly, the same cannot be said of D7011 which was withdrawn in March 1975 and scrapped in January 1977. Taken using a Canon FTb on Kodachrome-2 film
